The Biden-Harris administration has announced that Texas Instruments (TI) will receive up to $1.6 billion in direct funding under the CHIPS for America program to build and operate manufacturing facilities to produce semiconductor chips (e.g., power management integrated circuits, microcontrollers, amplifiers, sensors) that are vital components to many electrical and electronic products, including automobiles. The proposed grant money will help to fund teh construction of two 300-nm wafer fabrication facilities in Sherman, Texas.

The $1.6 billion grant is part of the over $31 billion proposed under the CHIPS for America that will be or are awarded to factories to be built in 15 states. Many more billions of dollars will be invested in research and innovation. CHIPS for America is part of President Biden’s economic plan to invest in America, stimulate private sector investment, create good-paying jobs, make more in the United States, and revitalize communities left behind.
