My Story
MiKayla was born and raised in southeast Alaska. She moved to southern Utah to attend college and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. During her undergraduate education, MiKayla developed an interest in research participating in molecular biology and molecular genetics research opportunities at Dixie State University and Ohio State University. After completing her degree in Southern Utah, she came to Texas to pursue a Ph.D. in molecular biology at UT Southwestern. Spanning molecular biology, physiology, genomics and metabolomics, her graduate work focused on molecular mechanisms that regulate fat cell development. During graduate school, MiKayla developed an interest in intellectual property law, leading her to become a technical advisor at Fulton Jeang PLLC where she enjoys using her scientific background in a different way.
In her free time, Mikayla enjoys walking her dog, spending time in her vegetable garden, and going to the lake with her husband.
