My Story

Lori Shaw is a business and real estate attorney who enjoys a diverse law practice advising entrepreneurs, mid-size, and large companies. With her extensive background in business and as in-house counsel, Lori provides practical business advice across a wide range of legal disciplines to support all aspects of her clients’ businesses and operations. Lori enjoys meeting new clients and gaining a thorough knowledge of their business goals and operations to help them identify legal risks and find cost-effective and practical solutions to their challenges.

Lori started her legal career in commercial litigation and has continued to use her litigation skills throughout her legal career by managing litigation and actively participating in resolving disputes for her clients. Analyzing and avoiding potential disputes have been key in drafting and negotiating contracts for her clients, as well.

Lori focuses on helping her clients build and grow their businesses by forming new entities, buying and selling companies and assets, acquiring real estate, securing acquisition funding, structuring and dissolving business partnerships, and resolving commercial disputes.

Lori’s commercial litigation background includes complex lender liability cases, commercial real estate leasing disputes, debt collection matters, conducting all phases of pretrial discover, drafting, trial and mediation preparation and negotiating settlements. Lori has also managed employment and commercial litigation and dispute resolution in her corporate positions, including consumer insurance defense matters, real estate issues, and complex class actions claims.

In her corporate roles, she has extensive experience in contract drafting, review and negotiation, and all aspects of corporate operations and product development, including regulatory compliance, negotiating mergers & acquisitions, and managing real estate transactions. Lori also has experience in the armored car, banking, document destruction and precious metals industries, as well as international transactions related to regulatory compliance and transportation.

The rest of the story…

Lori was born in Seoul, Korea and adopted by a farming family in central Illinois. Growing up on a farm in a small community, in Canton (near Peoria), Lori brings the deep rooted Midwestern work ethics and values to everything she does. Lori enjoys managing and visiting the family farms.

Lori graduated from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois with a degree in Economics and minors in Math and Business Administration. As part of her business minor, she took a business law class where her pursuit of the law began. While working for GTE (now Verizon), she attended law school at night. (She wouldn’t recommend this!) After transferring to Texas with GTE and escaping the brutal Midwest winters, Lori finished her legal studies at SMU as a visiting student and completed her law degree from Indiana University, Indianapolis campus. She was ready to pursue her legal career and took a position as a Commercial Litigation Associate. The rest is history, so to speak.

Lori resides in Colleyville, Texas and is an avid traveler and real estate investor. She and her long time boyfriend and business partner, Ted, flip houses as a hobby. Lori is the GC (not General Counsel, but General Contractor) of their flipping company and enjoys the decorating aspect of their business. She also manages their two short term rentals in their home towns of Dubuque, Iowa and Canton, Illinois, where Lori is a Superhost (Airbnb) and Premier Host (VRBO). She enjoys spending time with her daughter, Mackenzie, who does social media marketing and is an Influencer. Lori also enjoys spending time with Ted, friends and family, working out, movies, community and church events, wine tasting and playing with her West Highland Terrier Ridge. She also enjoys reading legal thrillers and romance novels in her free time.

Being a part of Fulton Jeang PLLC allows Lori to continue to expand her corporate and real estate experience and share her expertise. Lori enjoys meeting new clients and gaining a thorough knowledge of their business goals and operations to assist with identifying legal risks and finding cost-effective and practical solutions.
