My Story
Ajitav “Mick” Misra is a corporate transactional and tax attorney who has practiced at BigLaw firms, as well as in-house legal positions. He started his career as a tax attorney for Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, a Wall Street corporate law firm. He feels fortunate to have studied and worked under some of the biggest names in the tax law world, including Martin Ginsburg (the author of the M&A tax treatise and husband of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg), as well as Rick Ballard (the author of the American Bar Association textbook on municipal bonds and co-founder of the National Association of Bond Lawyers).
Mick has also developed an extensive skillset in a variety of corporate transactions. For example, he’s served as lead counsel for large, middle, and small market M&A transactions in a variety of industries. He’s also led large debt financings and tax-equity financings. Mick’s M&A and financing practice has been focused heavily on the renewable energy industry in recent years, as that industry has grown; however, he has led such transactions for technology companies, real estate firms, and growing companies in other industries as well.
Mick also has extensive experience representing private equity companies of all types and is attuned to their unique needs. Some of his experience includes fund formation and structuring, capital raising transactions, investment transactions, governance, and the management of portfolio companies.
Before joining Grable Martin Fulton PLLC, Mick was VP-Legal (General Counsel) of Adani Solar USA Inc., a leading solar energy developer. In this role, he led M&A, financing, construction, and development transactions, and he also managed outside counsel. Mick believes that his experience in-house has given him a better perspective on what truly matters for a company and its legal needs. He also earned an MBA from UCLA in finance, which he believes gives him a unique commercially-minded outlook. His personal goal is to look at things from the business person’s viewpoint and to find a solution that works instead of identifying reasons why deals will not work. As a commercially-minded attorney, clients have enjoyed working with him and find him to be a true counselor and trusted advisor.
In his free time, Mick enjoys biking, going to comedy shows, and working with technology startups. He is an active member of the technology startup scene, sitting on the board of a healthcare AI startup and also founding an edtech company while participating in a startup accelerator. He hopes to bike a century one day and see Dave Chappelle perform live.
